Craftsmanship Matters

Kitchens built on preparation, not shortcuts.

A kitchen remodel is one of the most complex projects in a home. It involves plumbing, electrical, gas lines, ventilation, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, lighting, and finishes that all have to work together in a tight space. When any of those trades are done out of sequence or without proper planning, problems show up quickly.

Tyler's Renovations starts every kitchen project with a thorough assessment of the existing space. We evaluate the condition of the subfloor, check plumbing and electrical, identify load-bearing walls if you are considering a layout change, and discuss how you actually use your kitchen before we talk about materials and finishes.

Why sequencing matters

Trades done out of order cause costly rework. Proper planning up front keeps the build on track and the end result on target.

Proper Sequencing
Demo, rough-in, cabinets, countertops, finishes. In the right order, every time.
Clean Connections
Plumbing, gas, and electrical done to code with accessible shutoffs.
Built to Last
Level cabinets, tight countertop seams, and hardware that holds up to daily use.

What We Do

From full gut remodels to single-trade updates, we handle every scope of kitchen work in the Des Moines area.

Full Kitchen Remodels

A full kitchen remodel means we address the entire room: demolition, layout adjustments, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, flooring, lighting, and paint. We work with you on the design and material selections, then manage the build in a planned sequence so trades are not stepping over each other.

  • Complete gut remodels and rebuilds
  • Open concept conversions (wall removal where structurally possible)
  • Galley, L-shape, U-shape, and island layouts
  • Design consultation and layout planning
  • Coordination of all trades (plumbing, electrical, gas)

Cabinet Installation & Replacement

Cabinets define how a kitchen looks and how well it functions. We handle full cabinet replacement, including removal of old cabinets, wall prep, and installation of new cabinetry with proper leveling and secure mounting. If your existing cabinet boxes are in good shape but the doors and finish are dated, we also offer cabinet refacing as a more cost-effective option.

  • Full cabinet removal and replacement
  • Cabinet refacing (new doors and finish on existing boxes)
  • Pantry cabinet and storage buildouts
  • Island cabinetry and custom configurations
  • Hardware selection and installation

Countertops

We install granite, quartz, butcher block, and laminate countertops. Each material has trade-offs in durability, maintenance, and price, and we walk you through those so you can make an informed choice. Proper countertop installation means level cabinets, accurate templating, tight seams, and correct cutouts for sinks and cooktops.

  • Granite countertop installation
  • Quartz countertop installation
  • Butcher block countertops
  • Laminate countertop installation
  • Sink and cooktop cutouts

Backsplash & Tile

A backsplash protects your walls and ties together the look of your cabinets and countertops. We install subway tile, mosaic, large-format tile, and other materials with consistent spacing, level lines, and properly sealed grout. Whether you want a simple, clean backsplash or a more detailed pattern, we focus on getting the layout and edges right.

  • Subway tile and ceramic tile backsplash
  • Mosaic and accent tile
  • Large-format tile installation
  • Grout sealing and finishing

Kitchen Flooring

Kitchen floors take more abuse than any other room in the house. Spills, foot traffic, dropped items, and standing water near the sink all demand a flooring material that can handle it. We install luxury vinyl plank (LVP), tile, and laminate in kitchens with proper subfloor prep, moisture barriers where needed, and clean transitions to adjacent rooms.

  • Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) installation
  • Tile flooring
  • Laminate flooring
  • Subfloor repair and leveling
  • Transitions to adjacent rooms

Lighting, Electrical & Plumbing

Most kitchen remodels involve some level of electrical or plumbing work. Adding under-cabinet lighting, moving a sink, installing a dishwasher, hooking up a gas range, or venting a range hood are all standard parts of the scope we handle. We make sure all connections are done to code and accessible for future service.

  • Under-cabinet and recessed lighting
  • Outlet and switch relocation
  • Sink, disposal, and dishwasher plumbing
  • Gas line hookups for ranges and cooktops
  • Range hood venting and installation

Appliance Installation

We handle the installation side of new appliances, including proper hookups for gas, water, and electrical. Whether you are swapping out a single appliance or installing a full suite as part of a remodel, we make sure everything is connected correctly, vented properly, and fits the cabinetry around it.

  • Refrigerator water line connections
  • Dishwasher installation and hookup
  • Gas and electric range installation
  • Range hood and ventilation installation
  • Microwave and built-in appliance mounting

Planning Your Kitchen Remodel

Kitchen remodels have more moving parts than any other room in the house. Plumbing, electrical, gas, cabinetry, countertops, and appliances all need to be coordinated in the right sequence. Here is how we keep it organized:

01

Assessment

We evaluate your current kitchen layout, check the condition of plumbing, electrical, and gas lines, identify any structural considerations, and talk through how you use the space and what you want to change.

02

Design & Materials

We help you plan the layout, select cabinets, choose countertop materials, pick tile, and coordinate finishes. You make the decisions; we provide guidance on what works for your space and budget.

03

Timeline & Scope

We build a realistic schedule covering each phase: demo, rough-in (plumbing, electrical, gas), drywall, cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring, fixtures, and paint.

04

Execution

Our team follows a strict build sequence. We protect the rest of your home from dust and debris, manage material deliveries, and coordinate any specialty trades that are needed.

05

Final Walkthrough

We go through every detail with you to make sure the finished kitchen meets your expectations before we wrap up.

Common Questions

How long does a kitchen remodel take?
It depends on the scope. A countertop and backsplash update might take a week or two. A full gut remodel of a standard kitchen typically runs 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the complexity of the layout changes, cabinet lead times, and whether plumbing or electrical needs to be relocated. We provide a detailed timeline with every estimate.
Do you handle the design and layout, or do I need to bring my own plans?
We handle design and layout consultation. Some homeowners come to us with a Pinterest board full of ideas; others just know the current kitchen is not working. Either way, we sit down with you, discuss how you use the space, and help plan a layout and material combination that fits your style and budget.
Can you remove a wall to create an open concept kitchen?
In many cases, yes. We evaluate whether the wall is load-bearing and what structural support would be needed if it is. If the wall can be removed or replaced with a beam, we handle the engineering, permitting, and construction to open up the space safely.
What countertop material do you recommend?
It depends on how you use your kitchen and what you want to spend. Quartz is durable and low-maintenance. Granite offers a natural stone look with good heat resistance. Butcher block is warm and functional but requires regular oiling. Laminate is the most budget-friendly and comes in a wide range of styles. We walk through the pros and cons of each during the planning phase.
Will I be able to use my kitchen during the remodel?
For most full remodels, no. Once cabinets and plumbing are disconnected, the kitchen will be out of service. We recommend setting up a temporary prep area in another room with a microwave, coffee maker, and access to water. For smaller projects like a countertop swap or backsplash install, you may have limited access during the work.
Do you install appliances?
Yes. We handle installation and hookup for refrigerators, dishwashers, gas and electric ranges, range hoods, and built-in microwaves. We make sure gas lines, water lines, electrical connections, and venting are all done to code.
Do I need to pick out all my cabinets and materials before we start?
Ideally, yes. Cabinets in particular can have lead times of several weeks depending on the supplier. Having cabinets, countertops, tile, and fixtures selected and ordered before demo begins helps us avoid costly project delays. We guide you through selections and can recommend suppliers.
Do you offer financing for kitchen remodels?
Yes. We offer flexible financing options through Hearth, including promotional 0% interest plans for qualified homeowners. You can check your options without affecting your credit score.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Tyler's Renovations LLC is fully licensed and insured. We carry liability insurance on every project for your protection and peace of mind.
